Anders is having fun creating new uses for and new places for his travel belt. Which has us laughing a lot. We had frozen dark cherry and banana smoothies and apple pie for dinner. We also had a cheese pizza because my niece doesn’t eat fruit. It was yummy! Today I finally finished buying as much as I needed for the trip. My own carry-on for all the stuff I need for a 24 hour journey. Even though I really don’t know what I need since I have never done anything like this before. I purchased camera memory, camera cases, and dog and cat food. That stays here with the animals. Web searches showed that they served coffee and had self serve laundry – hard to find in this part of Europe. Gotta love Google maps. The place was close to my hotel. Got there to find that there’s one stacked washer and dryer in the cafe. The guy had to get some customers to move in order for me to use the machines. I was also lucky that no one had booked the machines in advance. Got some laundry done, have a fabulous latte and dropped my stuff off at my hotel before heading out again. Next stop – the Rock Church ( real name Temppeliaukio Church). It’s not that old – built in the 1960′s but it’s incredible. they blasted a hole in a big rock and built it half underground. The rock is very Canadian Shield looking but red. Anyway – I was very impressed. It’s one of the most visited tourist sites in Helsinki and the only thing they charge for is to use the WC. Next I headed down town. Got a little lost but eventually found my way to the Market (picked up some cherries which were tasty.) Got onto the city run ferry for the UNESCO Heritage site Suomenlinn (Swedish name Sveaborg – they have everything in Finnish and Swedish …
Just recently when a friend of mine happened to bring up the subject of laundry in conversation, I was surprised to find that it really struck a chord in me. Suddenly a rush of poetry had been awakened. Perhaps it was the way she described it — Adventures in Laundryland. I could just see it. The excitement, the majesty, the rapture of it all. Needless to say, from that point on I could no longer look at a washing machine the same way. And it was then that I experienced something very spiritual……I was reborn. Yes, that’s right, I was reborn. And it was in this rebirth that I became something so great that it made my former self look like a mere shadow in comparison……I became……LAUNDRYMAN!!!
